Nine-man Sochaux's bid to escape relegation from Ligue 1 suffered another setback today as they were soundly beaten at home by Bordeaux.

Jussie set Bordeaux on their way with the opening goal in the 12th minute and Nicolas Maurice-Belay doubled the lead in the 62nd minute with a penalty in an incident that saw Sochaux midfielder Sebastien Roudet sent off.

Things then quickly went from bad to worse for the hosts as they lost a second player, Modibo Maiga, to a red card two minutes later before Bordeaux wrapped up the scoring 21 minutes from time through Henri Saivet.

Sochaux's third defeat in their last four games leaves them in the bottom two of the standings, but they are still only a point adrift of safety as three of their main relegation rivals all suffered defeats as well this weekend.

Bordeaux, who have now won successive matches to keep alive their slim European hopes, bossed the early exchanges and, after Ludovic Obraniak had seen his sixth-minute volley blocked by home goalkeeper Teddy Richert, they took the lead through Jussie.

The Brazilian fired home left-footed from near the penalty spot after being picked out in the middle by Maurice-Belay.

Jussie could have doubled his side's lead four minutes later but volleyed just over before Sochaux finally started to give their opponents something to worry about around the half-hour mark.

Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso did well to deflect away Maiga's shot to keep his side ahead, and then six minutes later he did well again to deny the same player.

Sochaux were unable to get back on terms before the break though, and their hopes of getting anything out of the match vanished in an eight-minute spell in the second half.

Bordeaux had already started the period looking dangerous, Richert being called on to keep out shots from Maurice-Belay and Yoan Gouffran, when they won a penalty on the hour mark when Roudet handled in the area.

The midfielder was immediately given his marching orders and from the resulting spot-kick Maurice-Belay made it 2-0 despite Richert going the right way.

Sochaux's afternoon continued to unravel at a rapid pace after that as Maiga was dismissed soon after for arguing with the referee, and then Bordeaux made it 3-0 in the 69th minute when Saivet netted after being set up by Landry N'Guemo, sealing a comfortable win for Les Girondins.
