Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund bounced back from last weekend's defeat at Hoffenheim with an efficient home victory over Nurnberg.
Robert Lewandowski put Jurgen Klopp's side ahead four minutes into the second half and Kevin Grosskreutz made the points safe with a second goal - courtesy of a wicked deflection off Phillipp Wollscheid - 10 minutes from time.
The result moved Dortmund to within a point of leaders Borussia Monchengladbach in the fledgling league standings, while Nurnberg remained in the bottom half.
After a dour first half-hour at Signal Iduna Park, the first real opening fell to the visitors seven minutes before the break.
Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller's attempted pass to Marcel Schmelzer instead found Nurnberg's Jens Hegeler, who drove in a fierce shot which was parried, and then scuffed the rebound wide.
Young Nurnberg stopper Patrick Rakovsky pulled off a fine save at full stretch at the other end two minutes later to keep out a left-footed blast from Lewandowski to ensure the game was goalless at the interval.
The deadlock was broken four minutes after the restart, Lewandowski prodding home from five yards after Mario Gotze had whipped in a dangerous cross from the right.
The Poland striker could have doubled his tally in the 63rd minute when he latched onto a through-ball and found himself one on one with Rakovsky, but the teenager got his foot to the ball to divert it for a corner.
Substitute Ivan Perisic should have put the hosts two up 15 minutes from time when he was afforded a free header, but he saw his effort come back off the left post.
Any nerves the home fans were feeling were settled five minutes later, though, when Grosskreutz's powerful attempt took a deflection off the leg of Nurnberg defender Wollscheid and bounced agonisingly past Rakovsky.
