Werder pick up draw at Bayern |
 |
Werder Bremen used a concentrated performance to manage a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich. Mesut Özil gave Bremen the lead in the 39th minute and Mario Gomez equalised for Bayern after 72 minutes.
Bayern started the game better in front of 69,000 spectators in Munich as they caused plenty of problems for Werder’s defence – though they could not find the final touch. Werder’s first chance came after 28 minutes through Petri Pasanen, who headed Mesut Özil’s free kick against the post. Ten minutes later, Özil pushed Bremen ahead 1-0 as Aaron Hunt fed the Werder playmaker into the area and Özil converted the top chance.
Bayern increased the pressure in the second half but could not solve the alert Werder defence and strong keeper Tim Wiese, who had a superb save against Ivica Olic at the hour mark. And Wiese stopped Olic again just four minutes later to preserve the lead.
But Wiese and Werder were equalised in the 72nd minute. Philip Lahm beat Sebastian Boenisch and crossed into the middle, where Mario Gomez was quicker to the ball than Clemens Fritz and hit home the final goal of the match.
