Pato fires AC Milan to top |
|
Alexandre Pato got his fifth goal in seven games as AC Milan went top of the Serie A table as previous leaders Lazio suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Cesena.
Pato opened the scoring but Armin Bacinovic equalised for Palermo with just under half an hour left.
A Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty and a late goal by Robinho ensured Milan claimed all three points.
Ibrahimovic wasted the first opening when he fired wide and Milan were nearly made to pay but a Mattia Cassani shot following a corner was saved by Christian Abbiati.
Milan were ahead after 19 minutes as Clarence Seedorf's corner was headed into the top corner by Pato.
Just before half-time Abbiati gathered at the second attempt after dropping the ball from a powerful shot by Josip Ilicic.
Palermo were denied a penalty when Fabrizio Miccoli's free-kick struck Kevin-Prince Boateng on the hand but referee Luca Banti waved away their appeals.
Bacinovic drew the sides level when he finished from 25 yards after defender Mario Yepes had failed the clear the ball properly.
Milan were denied a penalty when Pato appeared to be fouled by Ezequiel Munoz in the area and then Palermo had a lucky escape when defender Cesare Bovo's clearance fell to Seedorf who fired agains the post.
Ibrahimovic put Milan ahead from the spot with 15 minutes to go after Massimo Ambrosini was brought down by Salvatore Sirigu.
Robinho sealed the win when he slotted into an empty net after Ibrahimovic squared the ball to him.
