Iaquinta misses penalty in draw |
|
Juventus were left to rue Vincenzo Iaquinta's first-half penalty miss as Bologna held out for a goalless draw which preserves their unbeaten record at Stadio Renato Della'Ara this season.
Iaquinta, who started the match on the bench but came on as an early replacement for the injured Amauri, was gifted the chance to opening the scoring nine minutes before half-time but saw his spot-kick saved by Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.
Neither side created much in a listless second period as Juve stretched their unbeaten run in Serie A to four matches.
Bologna, winless in three coming into this game, looked bereft of ideas going forward in the opening period and it fell to the visitors to carve out the early chances.
The first of those arrived on 15 minutes when Marco Motta crossed invitingly for Amauri but the Brazilian could not keep his header down.
The former Palermo striker again went close three minutes later, this time rising highest to meet Claudio Marchisio's corner but once more missing the target when he might have done better.
A minute later Miguel Britos' error at the back gifted Juventus another chance as Milos Krasic picked up the ball and squared for Fabio Quagliarella to tap into the unguarded net, only for Britos' central-defensive partner Daniele Portanova to track back and hack clear.
Amauri's afternoon ended prematurely on 22 minutes when he was forced off with an injury to be replaced by Iaquinta, and the Italy international was soon embroiled in the key moment of the match.
Ten minutes before the interval Krasic went down in the area under pressure from Portanova and the referee pointed to the spot. Iaquinta stepped up to take the kick from 12 yards but Viviano read the striker's intentions and made a superb save away to his right.
The second half was a dismal affair with little in the way of goalmouth action.
The only moment of note came on 63 minutes when Alessandro Del Piero entered the fray as the replacement for Krasic.
Del Piero is on the brink of becoming Juve's all-time leading Serie A goalscorer after hitting his 178th league goal last weekend to match the tally of club legend Giampiero Boniperti, but the veteran forward never looked likely to break that record today as the game petered out into a tame draw.
