Cassano completes late Samp comeback |
 |
Sampdoria came from behind to win their first Serie A game in seven weeks against Fiorentina.
Marco Marchionni gave the visitors the lead in the sixth minute before Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey preserved the advantage with a string of fine saves to frustrate the home team.
Reto Ziegler eventually forced an equaliser before Antonio Cassano scored the winner to earn Samp their first victory since August 29. La Viola made a perfect start to the game with Marchionni nodding them in front inside 10 minutes when he rose unchallenged to meet Juan Vargas' cross.
Frey kept the visitors in front on 23 minutes with a fine one-handed save to deny Giampaolo Pazzini, whose header from Franco Semioli's cross seemed to be heading inside the far post.
Two minutes later, Sampdoria appealed for a penalty when Semioli went down in the area after appearing to be nudged by Gulan, but the referee waved play on.
In the 36th minute Frey denied Cassano, who after exchanging passes with Pazzini tried a lob but the French goalkeeper made a reflex save.
Cassano vented his frustration after diverting Ziegler's corner just past the far post in the 66th minute, before Pazzini blazed over the crossbar from close range.
But with 10 minutes to go the equaliser finally arrived. Ziegler, who had left Marchionni all alone for the Fiorentina goal, beat Frey with a powerful free-kick from 25 yards.
Just a minute later, Cassano skipped past two Fiorentina defenders before finally getting the better of Frey and earning his side all three points.
