Roma woes continue |
 |
Brescia followed up their impressive weekend win over Chievo with another fine victory to climb to third place in Serie A.
Perparim Hetemaj and Andrea Caracciolo fired Giuseppe Iachini's team into a two-goal lead and they kept their composure after Marco Borriello put Roma, by then down to 10 men after Philippe Mexes was sent off, back within one in the late stages.
Roma's dismal season continues, with Claudio Ranieri's team's record showing two draws and two defeats from their opening four games.
Borriello threatened for Roma in the fifth minute when his 25-yard strike was superbly turned aside by Matteo Sereni.
Jeremy Menez was the next visiting forward to trouble the home defence when he burst from midfield into the penalty area before putting his left-footed shot just wide.
Brescia went ahead a minute later when Caracciolo crossed from the right and Hetemaj made space to drill a left-footed volley into the bottom right corner.
Borriello was denied again by Sereni, who produced another superb stop to thwart Mirko Vucinic in the 33rd minute, after he collected a pass from Menez and turned sharply before firing at goal.
Roma replaced Menez with Brazilian Adriano at half-time, but the change made little impact.
Brescia were controversially awarded a spot-kick in the 64th minute after Mexes brought down Eder.
Television pictures appeared to show the foul took place just outside the penalty area, but the punishment for Mexes was severe, as he was shown his second yellow card of the game and Brescia were given the chance to double their lead.
Caracciolo powered his kick down the centre of goal to give Brescia breathing space.
Roma were down on numbers but found a goal after 84 minutes when Borriello made Brescia pay for failing to clear their lines following a free-kick, swivelling 15 yards from goal and blasting a shot into the back of the net.
However Brescia played it safe thereafter to pick up their third win in four matches so far this season.
