Napoli end Samp home run |
 |
Napoli became the first side to beat Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris since January 2009 by coming from behind to win tonight.
Antonio Cassano thought he had taken Samp to the top of Serie A when he put them ahead with a penalty in the 78th minute, but two quickfire goals from Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani earned Napoli their first win of the season.
The win lifted Walter Mazzarri's side up to seventh in the table and preserved their unbeaten start to the season.
After a first half bereft of emotion and lacking clear-cut chances, Stefano Guberti rattled the crossbar with Samp's first shot of the game in the 66th minute.
Up to then, Napoli had controlled the game, albeit without posing a threat to Giancarlo Curci's goal.
That changed in the 73rd minute when Walter Gargano's free-kick cannoned back off the underside of the crossbar and Christian Maggio's follow-up header was tipped away by Curci.
Samp were gifted the chance to go ahead when Paolo Cannavaro climbed over the back of Nicola Pozzi as he attempted to reach Cassano's delicate cross into the penalty area.
Cassano scored his first career goal against Napoli from the penalty spot and the home side thought they had done enough to win.
Napoli had other ideas, though, and channelled their frustration into getting back into the game.
They levelled in the 83rd minute when Gargano fooled the Samp defence by passing the ball into the path of Hamsik rather than shooting from a direct free-kick situation.
The Slovakian did the rest, beating Curci to level.
And Cavani stole a deserved win for Napoli just a few minutes later when he stuck out a boot to divert Ezequiel Lavezzi's cross inside Curci's near post.
