Di Vaio launches comeback
Marco Di Vaio struck twice in the second half as Bologna came from behind to earn a point at Roma this afternoon.

The Eternal City giants thought they had secured their first triumph of the campaign only for Di Vaio to fire home a late equaliser and silence the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico.

Marco Borriello opened his account for Roma in the seventh minute before Bologna defender Matteo Rubin deflected the ball into his own net seconds before the hour mark to double the Giallorossi's lead.

Di Vaio pulled a goal back for the visitors with 13 minutes remaining and the veteran forward added his second at the death.

Claudio Ranieri's men went into the encounter desperate to make amends for last weekend's 5-1 debacle at Cagliari which followed their 2-0 midweek defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Roma enjoyed a strong start and took a deserved lead early on.

Philippe Mexes served Borriello and the striker beat the offside trap before firing a left-footed shot from the edge of the area past Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.

The hosts should have doubled their lead two minutes later.

Francesco Totti's right-footed strike from 20 yards beat Viviano but struck the crossbar.

Midway through the first half, Diego Perez had the first sight of goal for the visitors with his 30-yard bullet strike going wide of the far post.

Bologna were unlucky not to level matters on the stroke of half-time.

Daniele Paponi's right-footed shot from the heart of the area hit the far post with Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio already beaten.

The visitors picked up where they left off after the restart and Di Vaio's diagonal effort from outside the area went over the bar.

Just when Bologna were playing at their best, disaster struck for them.

There was nothing Viviano could do when Rubin deflected Borriello's header into his own net as he stretched to anticipate substitute Matteo Brighi.

Bologna spent the final 20 minutes in search of a goal and their efforts paid off.

Perez fed Di Vaio inside the area and his left-footed strike beat Julio Sergio.

Bologna never gave up hope and struck again one minute from time.

Di Vaio got behind substitute Riccardo Meggiorini's cross and fired past Julio Sergio to hand his team a valuable point.
