Pozzi brace pegs back Juve |
|
Juventus picked up their first Serie A point of the season but could have had all three against Sampdoria as they twice relinquished the lead in an entertaining draw at Turin's Stadio Olimpico.
Luigi Del Neri's side, who went down 1-0 at Bari in their opener a fortnight ago, trailed to Nicola Pozzi's 36th-minute strike but got back on terms through Claudio Marchisio two minutes before the break.
Simone Pepe and Fabio Quagliarella netted further goals for Juve after the interval but on each occasion they were cancelled out, first by Antonio Cassano and then by Pozzi again.
Pepe could have made his mark as early as the third minute but failed to test Gianluca Curci with what should have been a straightforward header from Marchisio's cross.
Alessandro Del Piero's attempt from the edge of the box was deflected over the bar and Pozzi sent another header wide, while an off-target shot from Reto Ziegler was the best Samp could muster in the early stages.
Former Samp keeper Storari came to Juve's rescue in the 21st minute to keep out a Pozzi blast after careless play by Felipe Melo, but the former Italy Under-21 striker did not have to wait too much longer to open the scoring.
Pozzi latched onto Cassano's pass and slotted home from 10 yards to give Samp a deserved lead.
Juve were level before the break, though.
Del Piero served notice of what was to come with a 30-yard free-kick which skimmed the post in the 40th minute and then three minutes later Marchisio's fierce drive gave Curci no chance.
The home team continued in the same vein after the interval and went ahead courtesy of a Pepe tap-in after Curci had saved Quagliarella's 20-yard effort.
Curci had to be on his toes to prevent Juventus going two up on the hour and did well to deny Milos Krasic after a fine run by the Serbia forward.
That saved proved crucial four minutes later when Cassano sprang the offside trap from Angelo Palombo's pass and found the corner of Storari's net.
The visitors were only on level terms for three minutes, though, before Quagliarella scored on the rebound after Pepe had hit the post.
Samp refused to give up, though, and equalised for a second time in the 73rd minute when Pozzi headed into the top-left corner from substitute Guido Marilungo's cross.
