| Capello offered £9m to join Inter |

Inter Milan are prepared to offer Fabio Capello £9million a year and a huge transfer war chest in an attempt to capture the England manager.
Capello has been identified as the No 1 target for the European champions, who have launched their search for a manager strong enough to follow in the footsteps of Real Madrid-bound Jose Mourinho.
Inter know it will not be easy to prise the 63-year-old Italian from the England job, especially at a time when he is focused on trying to win the World Cup in South Africa.
Capello, who will choose his final 23-man squad after Sunday’s friendly against Japan in Austria, has forbidden his players from negotiating transfers during this period and would not leave himself open to accusations of hypocrisy by talking to Inter.
The Italian champions are willing to be patient if they receive the slightest hint from Capello that he might be interested in talking after the World Cup, and they are prepared to offer him a huge increase on his £6m-a-year deal at the FA.
Capello tops a shortlist compiled by Inter’s vice-president Angelomario Moratti, the man who struck a deal to lure him to the San Siro four years ago, only to be thwarted by Italy’s match-fixing scandal.
The FA insisted last night insisted there had been no contact from anyone about Capello, who is already in the process of removing a £6m exit clause from his contract which was designed to give both sides the chance to assess their futures after the World Cup.
Capello has made it clear to the FA that he is committed to staying until the end of
his contract in 2012.
Mourinho was paid £9.3m for this season’s work, a £6.8m basic plus bonuses for winning the Serie A title, Italian Cup and Champions League.
His move to Real Madrid moved a step closer last night when president Florentino Perez announced the sacking of coach Manuel Pellegrini and said Mourinho would be appointed once a compensation package had been agreed with Inter.
Perez said: ‘Everyone at the club is very enthusiastic to be able to count on one of the best coaches in the world. Mourinho is what Real Madrid needs. He’s going to win titles and Madrid lives off titles.’
Inter want a successor with Mourinho’s inspirational qualities and Guus Hiddink, now in charge of Turkey, is also on the shortlist.
Meanwhile, Capello is planning to drop Leighton Baines for the Japan friendly amid fears the Everton left back may be too shy to prosper among the big egos and intense pressure of the England squad.
Baines admitted: ‘Everyone wants to be part of England but I’ve always found it hard, even when I was a teenager, being away from home. But the more time you spend around the lads the more you feel part of it.’
