Juventus showed great initiative as from the beginning of the match, showing great determination right from kick-off. Ferrara fielded a 4-3-1-2 formation with Diego behind the strikers Trezeguet and Iaquinta.
After an initial few spurts in midfield, it was Milan to have the first chance of goal with Pato on the 7th minute. Juventus however were very reactive and one minute later Trezeguet shoots high from a Grygera cross. On the 12th minute Trezeguet is stopped for offside as he heads wide from a good position. Seconds later, it is curtain up on the Diego show. The Brazilian danced the samba in midfield forcing Huntelaar to foul him.
The quarter of an hour sees Huntelaar attemmpting at goal with Buffon saving easily. Juventus, however are the far better team, manouvering well especially on the right flank. On the 17th minute Pirlo went closing to breaking the deadlock hitting the post.
On the 28th minute the Diego show leaves its mark as the Brazilian champion runs towards the area and shoots with Thiago Silva only managing to deviate slighty beyond Storari and into the net for the 1-0.
The 32nd minute sees Grygera clearing on Pato. The next few minutes see Diego as the highlight of the match. Notwithstanding it is only his second match since joing Juventus, the Brazilian seems to be in great condition and this is also reflected by the number of passes received from his team mates. On the 44th minute Buffon saved well on Pato while.
The second half sees Ferrara making two substitutions : Amauri on for Iaquinta and Molinaro for De Ceglie.
The 46th minute immediately sees Amauri in great evidence with a heel to serve Diego who puts the ball into the centre where Trezeguet misses. Seconds later there is a series of other exchanges between the two Brazilians for a beautiful Juventus. The 53rd minute sees yet another great move by Diego who after plating Gattuso served Molinaro who put the ball into the area with Thiago Motta putting out for a corner.
Grygera is struck by cramps on the 57th minute and is substituted by Zebina. On the 66th minute a great save by Buffon denies Milan an equaliser which comes three minutes later thanks to pato who was left completely alone in front of Buffon.
The 72nd minute sees Diego leaving the field and being replaced by young Yago. The Brazilian exits applauded by the public: 2 goals in 2 matches and 2 great performances. Two minutes later a Milan shot goes over the bar. Poulsen comes on for Salihamidzic on the 82nd minute.
The last chance of the match is for Ronaldinho who enters the Juventus area and dances with the ball finally shooting just wide of the far post. On the 47th minute Juventus win a corner after a Marchisio shot is deviated. From the flag the ball is too high for Amauri to head home. In the last minute of stoppage time Poulsen hangs in a good cross into the area but the Milan defence manages to clear.
The 90 minutes end on a 1-1 draw. The match goes to penalties.
