Martin Harnik struck deep in injury-time to secure 10-man Austria a dramatic Euro 2012 qualifying point in Belgium.
In a thrilling topsy-turvy clash in Brussels, Nicolas Lombaerts had seemingly earned Belgium a last-gasp win as he fired home in the 90th minute.
However, Harnik was in the right place at the right time to slam home a stunning leveller and send the travelling band of Austrian fans barmy.
An effervescent start to proceedings saw Jelle Vossen give Belgium the early breakthrough after a bright opening just 11 minutes into the encounter at the Roi Baudouin Stadium.
Three minutes later, however, defender Franz Schiemer levelled for Austria as they fought back immediately.
Werder Bremen star Marko Arnautovic then put the visitors in front shortly before the half-hour mark to leave the home fans disgruntled.
Belgium regrouped after the break, however, and two minutes after the re-start Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini restored parity with a well-taken goal.
Shortly after the hour mark passed Austria defender Schiemer scored his second of the night to put the visitors in front once again.
Their cause was not helped, however, by the 68th-minute dismissal of Paul Scharner for an ill-judged moment of madness.
Still, Austria seemed set to hold on for victory only for them to concede a sloppy goal three minutes from time as striker Marvin Ogunjimi made it 3-3.
The buoyant Belgian support then felt their relief turn to ecstasy when Lombaerts scored what looked to be a winner in the 90th minute, only for substitute Harnik - introduced from the bench two minutes from time - scored a thrilling equaliser to round off an amazing night in Brussels.
