Klose keen to add to goal haul |
 |
Germany striker Mirolsav Klose has set his sights on the country's goalscoring record - set by the legendary Gerd Muller - and has vowed to add to his tally in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Muller bagged 68 goals during his international career and Klose is currently 15 goals behind on 53; just two strikes away from drawing level with second-placed Joachim Streich. However, the Bayern Munich striker passed Muller's World Cup record for Germany in South Africa as he leapt up to second in the all-time list (behind Ronaldo) with 14.
Now 32, it is doubtful that Klose will get a chance to beat that record at Brazil 2014, but he has time to overcome Muller once more before he hangs up his boots, although is keen to put the team ahead of his own personal ambition.
"I will try to have another good game against Azerbaijan," Klose said. "I would love to score a goal in every match I play. We already know that Azerbaijan will be a tough team to face. When we last played them, we were only 1-0 up at half-time, prior to winning 4-0.
"It is always nice to be in the top two German goalscorers, but my aim is to see my nation do well. As a team, we are missing at least three of four weeks' worth of preparation before we will be at full capacity again."
