Capello commits future |
|
England coach Fabio Capello has put an end to speculation that he could take over at Inter Milan after the World Cup finals by committing his future until the summer of 2012.
Capello has signed a new contract which removes a crucial clause from his previous agreement - a break clause which could have seen Capello and the Football Association part ways after the finals in South Africa.
Capello said: "I am very happy about this and would like to thank Sir David Richards and the FA for their continued support and assurances about my future. I always wanted to stay until the end of my contract. In South Africa, we are totally focused on the World Cup.''
The new contract means Capello will definitely lead England through qualifying for the European Championships and the deal runs through to the finals, which take place in Ukraine and Poland in the summer of 2012.
Inter president Massimo Moratti confirmed Capello was on his shortlist to replace Inter Milan.
"The FA can confirm that Fabio Capello is committed to managing the England team until the 2012 European Championship,'' said an official FA statement. "An amendment to his employment contract was signed and exchanged today, with break clause options for both the FA and Fabio being removed.''
Talks with Club England chairman Sir David Richards satisfied Capello as he reaffirmed his two-year commitment.
Richards said: "We are very pleased to have Fabio's commitment for another two years and it is good that we have been able to resolve this before the team flies to South Africa. Now we can all concentrate on the World Cup and give Fabio and the players our full support.''
