Bordeaux claim first win with late show

Valenciennes' poor start to the Ligue 1 season continued this evening as two goals in the last 10 minutes saw Bordeaux come from behind to snatch their first victory of the campaign.

VA headed into the match having managed just one point and one goal in their first three games, and with coach Daniel Sanchez calling for them to respond with "fury'' - and they looked set to pick up their first win when Mathieu Dossevi put them ahead in the first half at the Stade du Hainaut.

But two substitutes turned things around for Les Girondins, Abdou Traore equalising nine minutes from time and then Anthony Modeste prodding home in stoppage time to earn Francis Gillot's side their first triumph of the campaign.

It had all started well for the hosts, who took the lead through the first real attack of the game in the 27th minute. Gael Danic released Dossevi, who lashed a fierce shot past Cedric Carrasso from 12 yards.

Sanchez's side could have extended their advantage five minutes later, but Gregory Pujol was just unable to connect with Dossevi's cross at the near post.

The visitors mustered a couple of chances to get back on level terms before the break, but Valenciennes goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau got in the way of Jaroslav Plasil's drive and then Yoan Gouffran lashed just wide after Dossevi had lost the ball to Nicolas Maurice-Belay.

Bordeaux keeper Carrasso had to be alert at the start of the second half, pulling off an excellent reflex save to keep out Pujol's curling left-footed effort after good work by Danic.

The action continued to switch from end to end, Penneteau next called upon to save a Fahid Ben Khalfallah header.

VA should have given themselves a two-goal cushion from a 72nd-minute counter-attack when Danic found Dossevi unmarked six yards out, but he contrived to shoot wide.

That miss proved costly as two goals in the final 10 minutes stunned Valenciennes.

Penneteau punched clear from Gouffran's shot, but Traore pounced on the rebound to restore parity from close range.

Then, in the 92nd minute, Modeste slid in to divert Cheick Diabate's flick past Penneteau.
