Bordeaux and Auxerre both remained without a win this season after sharing the points at the Stade Chaban Delmas tonight.
In a match played in temperatures that reached 36 degrees at times, Bordeaux went in front midway through the first half through Yoan Gouffran's first goal of the season.
But Auxerre responded at a similar stage of the second half, with Alain Traore ensuring his side returned home with a share of the spoils, although they hardly deserved it.
They would have taken that if they could have pre-empted their performance, though, with Bordeaux impressing.
They had an early chance with Jaroslav Plasil's 20-yard strike scraping wide, before Anthony Modeste's 18-yard volley was scrambled away by Olivier Sorin after the keeper had put himself in trouble with a poor clearance.
Modeste and Plasil then linked up in the box, with Plasil's effort being deflected wide, and it was no surprise when the home side took a 22nd-minute lead.
Benoit Tremoulinas freed Plasil and, after his cross found Gouffran, the striker found the back of the net despite the best efforts of Sorin.
It could have been 2-0 before the break too, with Nicolas Maurice-Belay nearly beating Sorin from 20 yards as the half-time whistle approached.
Bordeaux continued to impress after the interval, with Plasil's free-kick falling to Gouffran who somehow failed to find the target from two yards out.
Then, against the run of play, Auxerre equalised.
Delvin Ndinga played in Traore, he skipped and stumbled past three defenders and then beat Cedric Carrasso with a crisp finish.
Staggeringly, that would prove to be Auxerre's only chance of the game, and they were more than fortunate not to lose, especially as Sorin saved from Mickael Ciani in the closing stages.
