Lille net first win
Defending champions Lille enjoyed their first win of the Ligue 1 season tonight to end Caen's 100% start.
Having taken just a point from their opening two fixtures, the pressure was on Rudi Garcia's side to produce the goods at the Stade Michel d'Ornano.
But they rose to the challenge thanks to second-half goals from Benoit Pedretti and Mathieu Debuchy.
Benjamin Nivet replied from the spot in stoppage time but it was too little too late for the home side, who dropped their first points.
The visitors dominated the opening half but had nothing to show for it at the interval.
Pedretti created their first chance after 16 minutes with a cross into the area for Moussa Sow, but he could only direct his shot straight at Caen goalkeeper Alexis Thebaux.
Lille came frustratingly close to a goal two minutes later when Eden Hazard's free-kick from the edge of the area was headed onto the crossbar by Florent Balmont.
Garcia's men then rattled the woodwork twice in the 37th minute, with first Dimitri Payet smashing a shot onto the post before Hazard was denied by the bar on the rebound.
They continued to push forward for the opening goal but Thebaux ensured the scores remained level at the break by punching clear Payet's volley.
Caen caught their first glimpse of goal nine minutes after the restart when Romain Hamouma pounced on a loose pass from Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou but could only push his shot wide.
Thebaux then produced a double save to deny Hazard and Sow, but he was finally beaten after 68 minutes with Hazard providing a cross from the left which was tapped in by Pedretti.
Lille's second arrived two minutes from time through Debuchy, who finished off a move started down the right flank by Pedretti with a right-footed shot beyond the reach of Thebaux.
Nivet put away a penalty for Caen a minute into stoppage time, awarded as a result of Ludovic Obraniak's handball, but Lille had done enough to take home the points.
