Auxerre recovered from a 2-0 half-time deficit to salvage a point from their home clash with Marseille today.

Marseille looked on course for the win as goals at either end of the first half from Loic Remy and Andre Ayew put them in charge at the break.

However, Auxerre netted almost immediately after the restart through Alain Traore to get back into the contest and Roy Contout's equaliser eight minutes from full-time saw the hosts claim a draw.

Marseille, who led 1-0 at half-time against Sochaux last weekend before also drawing 2-2, needed just three minutes to get themselves in front thanks to Remy.

Remy's initial header from Mathieu Valbuena's free-kick was saved by Auxerre goalkeeper Olivier Sorin but the Marseille man reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.

Remy then nearly set up Benoit Cheyrou for Marseille's second two minutes later, but the ex-Auxerre midfielder saw his drive just miss the target.

Auxerre created their best chance of the first period soon after but Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda came out to deny Ben Sahar, and then three minutes before half-time the hosts found themselves 2-0 down.

Valbuena sent over a corner to the far post and Ayew beat his marker Traore to nod home.

Auxerre coach Laurent Fournier made one change at the break, sending on Contout for Issam Jemaa, and the substitute would end up being his side's hero in the closing stages.

However, before then it was Traore who got Auxerre back into the game as he netted just a minute after half-time to make it 2-1.

Sahar fed possession to Dennis Oliech who beat Cesar Azpilicueta before playing the ball into the path of Traore and the Burkina Faso midfielder's left-footed shot was too good for Mandanda.

Mandanda was called into action soon after to prevent Traore levelling up the scores after trying to catch the Marseille custodian out with a free-kick from near the corner flag.

Auxerre did make it 2-2 in the 82nd minute though to secure themselves their first point of the season after losing to Montpellier last time out.

Dariusz Dudka played in a deep corner from the left and Contout got on the end of it to smash in a shot which, despite the efforts of Mandanda, ended in the back of the net.
