Title favourites Paris St Germain suffered a humiliating start to the Ligue 1 season as they slipped to an opening-day defeat at home to Lorient.
A summer takeover of the club by Qatar Sports Investments has brought a huge injection of cash and signalled the arrival of eight new players so far in the transfer window to make the capital club favourites for Le Championnat.
However, Antoine Kombouare's side, notorious under-achievers over the years, got off to the worst possible start as Julien Quercia's first-half strike condemned them to an embarrassing loss.
Lorient made the early running and when PSG defender Mamadou Sakho missed his clearance, Quercia raced through and crossed for Kevin Monnet-Pacquet, only for the unmarked striker to see his shot blocked.
The rebound fell to Quercia but he was denied by goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.
A fallow period followed before the hosts were stunned in the 28th minute.
Again Quercia was in the thick of the action and it was he who scored the goal, finding space in the box to meet Yann Jouffre's free-kick and calmly sweep the ball home.
With half-time approaching Kevin Gameiro centred for Nene, whose attempted lob went narrowly over the bar.
Nene was involved again in added time when his free-kick found Sakho, who headed powerfully but saw Gregory Bourillon block it.
PSG were floundering and Lorient had the better of the early second half exchanges. Jouffre did well to win possession in the 53rd minute and tried his luck with a powerful left-footed shot which flew just wide of the top corner.
Arnold Mvuemba had another chance for the Brittany outfit shortly before the hour mark but saw his volley saved by Sirigu.
The former Portsmouth man came even closer minutes later when he smashed a free-kick against the crossbar with Lorient still on the offensive.
PSG did finally forge a chance five minutes from time but Nene's good work came to nothing as Fabien Audard made a wonderful save.
