Alou Diarra has joined Marseille from Bordeaux - a year after the transfer was first proposed.

Didier Deschamps, Marseille's manager, first attempted to sign Diarra in 2010 but a fee could not be agreed so he stayed with Les Girondins. This time, however, a three-year deal has reportedly been signed and the transfer has gone ahead.

"Alou Diarra passed his medical on Monday morning and signed his contract in the process", Marseille announced on their website.

"With Diarra, the club has secured the services of an international defensive midfielder who is among the best in France in his position."

The move concludes Diarra's four-year stint at Bordeaux. Prior to that, he had spells at Liverpool, Lens and Lyon, and has won 34 international caps for France
