First half goals from Cheikh Diabate and Wendel enabled Bordeaux to round off the Ligue 1 season with a win, lifting them to seventh in the table against a Montpellier side who finished with nine men.
The home side showed more enterprise throughout this contest at Stade Chaban Delmas and deserved the three points against a side who had little to play for and finished the season 14th.
Bordeaux started brightly and in the fourth minute Wendel brought a good low save out of Montpellier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren.
Three minutes later Benoit Tremoulinas shot into the side-netting after Wendel's free-kick had been partially cleared.
Bordeaux broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, Diabate netting from close range after Jourdren had punched clear a Tremoulinas shot.
Montpellier's first attempt on goal came in the 25th minute, with John Utaka heading Cyril Jeunechamp's cross narrowly wide.
However, the home side doubled their lead eight minutes before the break, with Wendel starting and finishing the move.
Diabate received the ball from the Brazilian on the right and, after a mazy run he returned it to Wendel for a left-footed shot which was too hot for Jourdren to handle
Bordeaux goalkeeper Ulrich Rame needed two attempts to block Younes Belhanda's 48th--minute free-kick - with Wendel firing an overhead kick narrowly over at the other end seven minutes later.
As the game entered the final quarter Montpellier defender Benjamin Stambouli produced a saving tackle to deny Diabate as he lined up a shot.
And the visitors' season ended in disappointing fashion as they had two players dismissed in the closing stages.
Jeunechamp picked up a second yellow card in the 74th minute for a foul on Marange, then four minutes from time Joris Marveaux was given a straight red for a foolish, reckless challenge on Tremoulinas.
