Bore draw denies Rennes |
 |
Rennes missed out on the chance to close the gap at the top of Ligue 1 to just a point as they were held to a goalless draw by Bordeaux.
A win for Frederic Antonetti's men would have moved them closer to leaders Lille, but a fourth away draw of the campaign means they end the weekend in fourth place.
It was of little surprise that the game ended without a goal, with genuine chances few and far between for both sides.
Rennes' Michael Ciani had the first real effort on goal after 25 minutes, his header saved by Nicolas Douchez, although it would not have counted as he had been flagged offside.
Bordeaux's Yoan Gouffran then blazed across goal, while the home side thought they had a case for a penalty when Gouffran and Douchez got tangled up in the area.
The fare did not get much more entertaining after the break, with Alou Diarra forcing a save out of Douchez and Gouffran's heavy touch robbing him the chance of getting a strike in on goal as he broke through.
Ciani then had a header cleared off the line by Yann M'vila, before Rennes had the chance of the match.
With 13 minutes remaining, Stephane Dalmat broke into the area but, after a poor touch, his angle was reduced and his shot came back off the bar. He followed up the rebound with a header but Diarra managed to get in the way.
