Marseille suffer derby woe |
|
Emerse Fae struck an injury time winner to give Nice victory in the south coast derby as Marseille missed the chance to go top of the Ligue 1 table.
Fae added the finish to a flowing counter-attack to leave OM two points behind new leaders Lille.
Nice could find themselves in hot water with the authorities, though, because of a bottle thrown at visiting goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
Marseille created a host of chances in the first half, Benoit Cheyrou beating Julien Sable in the area only to shoot wide of the post before seeing his volley from Charles Kabore's cross deflected away by the chest of defender Renato Civelli.
Leyti N'Diaye then got his head to a Lucho Gonzalez corner but keeper David Ospina made the save underneath the bar and then denied Brandao a minute later.
The hosts might have snatched a shock lead on the verge of half-time when Eric Mouloungui made ground down the right and fired the ball across the area but it was cleared.
The start of the second half was delayed when a bottle was thrown towards Mandanda, who was almost beaten in the 65th minute.
Danijel Ljuboja noticed the keeper off his line and attempted a chip which went just over the bar.
At the other end Ospina needed two attempts to keep out Mathieu Valbuena's long-range shot.
Former Nice man Loic Remy carved out another chance for OM, beating several men before Valbuena took possession.
He played a one-two with Kabore and had a shot blocked, Brandao pouncing on the rebound only for Ospina to again deny him.
And Nice made their opponents pay for those missed chances as, a minute into added time, Fae, Chaouki Ben Saada and Anthony Mounier launched a counter-attack which ended with Fae slotting a left-footed effort past Mandanda to settle the contest.
