Lyon see off Montpellier |
 |
Lisandro Lopez struck in the fifth minute of injury time to move Lyon up to third in Ligue 1 with victory at Montpellier.
Lisandro opened the scoring after five minutes but Montpellier looked like they would claim a point from a closely-fought contest when Emir Spahic headed home 10 minutes from the end.
But with almost the last kick of the game Lisandro lashed home a winner from close range, despite protests from the home players he had used an arm to control the ball.
The win extends Lyon's unbeaten league run to nine games and moves them just a point behind leaders Rennes.
The visitors shot out to an early lead when their Argentina international was left with the simplest of tasks to score after five minutes.
Michel Bastos made ground down the right flank and with the home defence backtracking found Maxime Gonalons, who delivered a superb ball for Lisandro to poke in from close range.
Montpellier tried to reply on 19 minutes when Geoffrey Dernis fired a well-hit volley wide, but it was a rare forward move by the hosts in a first half in which they were forced to hold on.
Lyon could not find a second goal before the break though, with Lisandro and Bastos both denied by home goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren.
Montpellier were a different team after the break and were only denied a quick way back into the game by Hugo Lloris.
The France goalkeeper was at full stretch to keep out a Dernis free-kick before showing similar athleticism to twice deny Karim Ait Fana when he looked certain to score.
The home side's pressure finally told 10 minutes from the end when Lyon's defenders failed to get a head on a corner and Spahic stooped at the far post to head in.
Both sides pushed for a winner, but just when it looked like time would beat them both Lisandro popped up with his second of the game.
Timothee Kolodziejczak was given space to cross from the left and he found Lisandro, stationed between two defenders, who had time to control the ball before thrashing home.
