Bordeaux with an away win at Arles |
|
Arles remain cut adrift at the bottom of Ligue 1 after suffering their fifth home defeat of the season to Bordeaux.
The home side took the lead after 21 minutes through Camel Meriem, but the game turned on the 33rd-minute dismissal of Fabien Laurenti.
Laurenti was sent off for handball and Anthony Modeste equalised from the resulting penalty before going on to score a hat-trick, with Yoan Gouffran also getting on the scoresheet.
Arles made a bright start and their first chance came on 16 minutes when goalkeeper Cyrille Merville's long clearance was flicked on by Kaba Diawara to Meriem, but his first-time shot was straight at Cedric Carrasso.
Just five minutes later Meriem was more successful, pouncing on a loose ball to fire home after Gael Germany's cross was not fully cleared.
But home hopes of a rare win were effectively ended on 33 minutes when Laurenti foolishly handled in the area and received his marching orders.
Modeste sent Merville the wrong way from the spot and just four minutes later Bordeaux took the lead as Gouffran volleyed home from Moussa Maazou's pass in the area.
The visitors extended their lead on 58 minutes when Gouffran turned provider with a cross for Modeste to score his second amid a goalmouth scramble.
And Wendel came agonisingly close to another on 66 minutes when his 20-yard free-kick took a slight deflection before clipping the post.
Modeste eventually completed his hat-trick three minutes from time after good work from Benoit Tremoulinas, before Arles grabbed a consolation moments later through Hameur Bouazza.
