Ayew seals the win for Marseille |
 |
A goal by Andre Ayew three minutes from time guided Marseille to victory at Toulouse as they overcame a missed penalty to move into third in Ligue 1.
Ayew powered home a late header after Taye Taiwo had failed to convert a spot-kick 10 minutes into the second half.
It was Marseille's sixth win of the season and they are now just one point behind leaders Paris St Germain.
The visitors had the first chance of the game, Brandao's cross being met by Andre-Pierre Gignac whose header went just wide with the keeper beaten.
Toulouse responded with Daniel Congre putting a header slightly over the bar from Paulo Machado's corner.
Marseille kept up the pressure and twice went close before half-time. Brandao missed by inches with a shot before Souleymane Diawara headed inches over from Lucho Gonzalez's corner.
Didier Deschamps' side were then given the chance to take the lead after 55 minutes when Loic Remy was fouled by Franck Tabanou in the area and a penalty was awarded.
However, although Taiwo beat goalkeeper Mathieu Valverde the ball went wide.
Gignac had a shot punched away by Valverde before Remy hit the side netting as Marseille searched for the breakthrough.
Toulouse threatened as Fode Mansare dribbled into the area and forced keeper Steve Mandanda into a save at full stretch.
The match appeared to be heading for a goalless draw but just three minutes from time Ayew became the matchwinner as he headed home Cesar Azpilicueta's cross at the far post.
