PSG climb above Marseille |
 |
Paris St Germain moved above arch-rivals Marseille in the Ligue 1 table after winning this contest at the Parc des Princes.
Goals from Mevlut Erding and Guillaume Hoarau gave the hosts an early two-goal advantage, before Lucho Gonzalez pulled one back for Marseille in the 23rd minute.
That was the extent of the scoring, with PSG climbing to third in the table, one place and one point above the visitors - whose supporters were banned from this match after violent clashes in this fixture in recent years.
The home side started brightly and after Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda had blocked a third-minute Ludovic Giuly effort, they took a ninth-minute lead.
Clement Chantome released Nene on the left of the Marseille penalty area and although Mandanda blocked the Brazilian's effort, Erding was in the right place to convert the rebound.
Home keeper Apoula Edel denied Andre-Pierre Gignac after a quarter of an hour - and four minutes later PSG were 2-0 ahead when Nene freed Hoarau, who finished well.
However, Gonzalez got the visitors back into the game when he netted from close range after Edel could only push Gignac's low cross into his path.
Mandanda denied Erding another goal four minutes before the interval - and seven minutes after the restart Edel produced an excellent block to deny Loic Remy's shot from Gignac's cross.
Mathieu Bodmer had the chance to give PSG a two-goal advantage when he saw a 73rd-minute header from Nene's cross blocked by Mandanda.
However, the home side held on, although they needed Edel to react sharply in the second minute of injury time to deny Andre Ayew a chance from six yards, after Brandao had headed the ball goalwards.
