Arles recorded their first win in Ligue 1 |
|
Kaba Diawara scored twice, the second from the penalty spot, as Arles recorded their first win of the Ligue 1 season with a narrow victory over Caen.
Diawara had put the home side ahead just after the half hour and did the same with 15 minutes to go when he netted from the spot.
Youssef El Arabi had given Caen the lead before Gael Germany equalised for the home side.
Diawara put Arles in front before Kandia Traore made it all square once more after 65 minutes, but Diawara had the last say with his penalty.
Arles had the first opening when Diawara volleyed from close range but Alexis Thebaux blocked his effort.
Caen's Benjamin Nivet then shot from 18 yards and Cyrille Merville punched the ball away.
The visitors took the lead when El Arabi scored after Yohan Mollo and Nivet had been involved in the build-up which also saw Traore dummy so that El Arabi could net from close range.
Thebaux pulled off a fine save to deny Francisco Pavon who fired in an overhead kick from a corner by Kamel Meriem.
But Germany was not to be denied the equaliser which came from a counter attack led by Hameur Bouazza down the left.
His cross to the far post found Germany who volleyed past Thebaux from close range.
Arles went ahead when Meriem's free-kick from long range picked out Diawara who beat Thebaux.
Caen could have been back on level terms just after the hour when Nivet set up Livio Nabab on the right but his shot from the edge of the penalty area was inches over the bar.
But the visitors were level with 25 minutes to go when Traore scored from close range following a free-kick by Alexandre Raineau.
However, the home side secured a first league win of the season when Diawara scored from the spot after Thebaux had fouled Franck Dja Djedje.
