Lyon resurgence continues |
 |
Lyon bounced back from their Coupe de la Ligue exit in midweek with a home win over struggling Sochaux.
Alexandre Lacazette scored his first Ligue 1 goal after 68 minutes to hand Claude Puel's side a much-needed success.
Just three minutes earlier, Brown Ideye had cancelled out Michel Bastos' opener to threaten another frustrating night for Les Gones, who climbed up to eighth with tonight's win.
Puel was given assurances he would keep his job after their 3-1 extra-time defeat to Paris St Germain in midweek, which followed an embarrassing 1-1 draw with bottom side Arles last weekend.
But the Lyon boss still knew his side needed a win to kick-start their faltering fortunes and they had to rely on a fine save from Hugo Lloris to keep out Ryad Boudebouz's strike after a mazy run before they went ahead.
Bastos grabbed the opener on the half hour with an unstoppable drive after Yoann Gourcuff had released Jimmy Briand to deliver the cross for his Brazilian team-mate to score.
The home side were reliant on Lloris again to maintain their lead into half-time when Damien Perquis freed David Sauget but he failed to net with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Sochaux's threat was apparent, however, and after the restart a three-man move eventually played in Ideye, who was once again denied by Lloris.
The France goalkeeper was finally beaten after 65 minutes when Edouard Butin's cross picked out Ideye and he fired home.
Sochaux were level for only three minutes as Lacazette, who replaced Bastos after 43 minutes, broke his league duck.
The substitute's effort was punched back to him by Pierrick Cros, but he kept his composure and jinked past Boukary Drame before finding the net.
