Auxerre boosted after edging thriller |
 |
Auxerre gave their Ligue 1 season a much-needed boost with victory over Paris St Germain in an enthralling contest at Parc des Princes.
Nene's first-minute goal for PSG was quickly erased by replies from Jean-Pascal Mignot and Roy Contout as the crowd witnessed three goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Julien Quercia then gave Auxerre a little breathing space, but a second-half penalty from Nene set up a tense finish which the home side failed to capitalise on.
The result sees PSG slip down the standings from third while Auxerre climb to 15th.
The fans must have suspected they were in for a treat when Nene broke the deadlock a minute after kick-off with a sublime shot into the top corner from 30 yards.
Their lead lasted just two minutes as a corner from Benoit Pedrotti was poorly dealt with by the PSG defence allowing Mignot to fire home on the half-volley.
The crowd had only just caught their breath when the visitors made it 2-1 after 10 minutes. Contout passed to Dennis Oliech, who burst into the penalty area and lured goalkeeper Apoula Edel off his line before rolling the ball back to his team-mate for an easy finish.
And Edel was beaten again in the 24th minute. Pedretti released Quercia with a perfect ball which the striker knocked round the PSG keeper before planting it in an empty net.
That left PSG with work to do and they pushed hard to remedy things after the break.
Clement Chantome saw his strike from the edge of the area deflected just past the left post by Auxerre defender Stephane Grichting.
Mevlut Erding then forced a superb save out of Olivier Sorin with his 63rd-minute header, but there was little the visiting keeper could do to prevent PSG scoring six minutes later.
Grichting was punished for a trip on Chantome in the area, with Nene slotting home the resulting penalty to give the hosts hope.
But luck was not on their side in the final 20 minutes as first Erding shaved the right post with a header, before Nene's free-kick seven minutes from time was tipped over the bar by a diving Sorin.
