Marseille edge closer to summit |
|
A second-half double from Loic Remy helped Marseille recover from a goal down win at Stadium Metropole and go second in Ligue 1.
Didier Deschamps' side had trailed at the interval following Yohan Cabaye's opener for the hosts but Remy' two goals, either side of a Lucho Gonzalez effort, sealed the victory.
Mid-table Lille enjoyed much the better of the opening half with Cabaye forcing Steve Mandanda into a save as early as the second minute, while Gervinho saw his effort cleared to safety by Souleymane Diawara.
Mandanda then needed to be at full stretch to keep out a curling free-kick from Cabaye, and the hosts made their dominance count in the 26th minute.
Belgium international Eden Hazard crossed from the left and a poor clearance allowed Cabaye to control and fire home from the edge of the box.
Andre-Pierre Gignac had Marseille's best chance of the half but his effort was saved by Mickael Landreau.
Gignac fired wide in the early stages of the second stanza while, at the other end, Gervinho tested Mandanda.
Remy then levelled matters in the 53rd minute as he was played in by Mathieu Valbuena, and the forward made no mistake as he blasted home a first-time shot.
Valbuena was also the creator for OM's second goal. His surge down the right saw him pick out Gonzalez, who saw his shot deflected in off Rio Mavuba.
And in-form Remy sealed the win with 10 minutes remaining as he rose the highest to reach Gonzalez's corner, heading powerfully beyond Landreau.
