Lyon win against Nancy |
 |
Lyon completed a satisfying few days with a second successive away win which ought to ease the pressure on coach Claude Puel.
Les Gones, one of the Ligue 1 title favourites, started the weekend in the relegation zone but two goals from Jimmy Briand enabled them to register a much-needed victory and build on Wednesday's impressive 3-1 Champions League win at Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
Briand's first goal of the evening doubled Lyon's lead after the returning Lisandro Lopez put them ahead after 37 minutes.
Nancy hit back, however, and levelled matters through goals from Andre Luiz and Julien Feret - their first at the Stade Marcel Picot this season.
But they could not grab their first home point as Briand struck again with 15 minutes remaining to move Puel's men out of the bottom three.
Nancy bossed the early stages with ninth-minute substitute Djamel Bakar and Feret going close.
Argentina international Lisandro was more clinical eight minutes before the break as he opened the scoring from Lyon's first attack of note.
Yoann Gourcuff freed Briand down the right and his pass found Lisandro, who gave Nancy keeper Gennaro Bracigliano no chance from close range.
Briand made it 2-0 nine minutes into the second half, heading home a free-kick from Gourcuff.
Given Nancy's abysmal home record it seemed they were down and out but two goals in 14 minutes got them back on level terms.
They pulled one back when Andre Luiz nodded in Benjamin Gavanon's free-kick and equalised when France international Hugo Lloris flapped at a high ball in the area and Feret had the simple task of prodding into an empty net.
The hosts almost completed the comeback only for Lloris to redeem himself with a block to deny captain Youssouf Hadji.
And Lyon made the most of that let-off as Briand converted Aly Cissokho's cross after a glaring error from Bracigliano.
Nancy pressed hard for a late leveller but Lloris denied Jonathan Brison - Feret lashing over the rebound - while, in injury-time, Brison shot inches wide from the edge of the area.
