Toulouse miss chance to return to the summit |
 |
Toulouse missed the chance to return to the top of the Ligue 1 standings after being held to a draw at home to battling Lille.
Gervinho opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half but Lille failed to hold onto their advantage as Antoine Devaux equalised for Toulouse 15 minutes from time.
The draw extends Lille's unbeaten run to seven games and leaves them om 11 points, while Toulouse stay third on 14 points having missed the chance to pull level with leaders St Etienne.
Toulouse were much the brighter side in the opening 45 minutes, creating chances first for Federico Santander and then for Moussa Sissoko, who saw his flying header well saved by Mickael Landreau.
Lille went ahead on 27 minutes when David Rozenhal's long ball was controlled on the thigh by Gervinho, who produced a stunning instant shot when the ball landed which gave Mathieu Valverde no chance.
A lacklustre second period was enlivened only by the Toulouse equaliser, which arrived after 75 minutes.
Yannis Tafer created the opening with a cross from the right and when the ball reached Devaux on the edge of the area, the midfielder beat Landreau with a well-placed shot into the left corner.
Lille looked the team most likely to win it in the closing stages, with Emerson and Gervinho both going close with efforts from outside the area, but Toulouse held on for a scrappy point that keeps them in the mix at the sharp end of the table.
