Rennes miss chance |
|
Rennes passed up the chance to go top of Ligue 1 as they could only manage a goalless draw at Paris St Germain.
Yesterday's results left Rennes with a chance of finishing the weekend top of the table, but they could only claim a point from a match which either side could have won, though the hosts looked more like taking in the second half.
It was the visitors who started the stronger, but PSG had the first effort on goal after 12 minutes when Nene sent a free-kick from 25 yards over the bar.
At the other end, Romain Danze fired wide from long distance.
After 19 minutes, the dangerous Nene crossed from the left for Guillaume Hoarau, but the striker was unable to manoeuvre an effort on goal and his header went wide.
Moments later Rennes won a free-kick, which Yacine Brahimi sent goalwards, but it was a comfortable catch for Apoula Edel.
Hoarau failed to get on the end of Siaka Tiene's cross while, for Rennes, Brahimi was on target as both sides struggled to find any cutting edge.
After the break, Hoarau missed a great chance as headed Christophe Jallet's cross straight into the hands of Nicolas Douchez.
He then turned provider, bringing down a long ball from Claude Makelele for Mevlut Erding, whose left-footed volley went wide.
PSG thought they should have had a penalty when Tiene appeared to handle in the box after 67 minutes, but nothing was forthcoming.
PSG continued to threaten, but Nene's dangerous cross could not find a forward, while Jallet wasted a free-kick, sending it high over the bar.
