Bordeaux beat Lyon |
 |
Alou Diarra and Jussie scored for Bordeaux to inflict a defeat on Lyon which leaves the former dominant force in French football in a sorry position towards the foot of Ligue 1.
Diarra made the breakthrough on the hour mark and Jussie sealed victory in the 90th minute as Bordeaux showed the greater cutting edge.
Lyon, who won seven-successive titles between 2002 and 2008, finished second in the French top flight last season but have just five points from six games so far this term and are languishing one place above the relegation zone.
Bordeaux had not impressed in their opening five matches, of which they won just one, but today's victory nudged them into mid-table.
Former Bordeaux midfielder Yoann Gourcuff lined up for Lyon and set up Michel Bastos for an early header which went over the bar.
Jussie threatened for the home side in the 23rd minute when he lofted his shot just over the bar.
Lyon then almost stole ahead when Jimmy Briand played in Lisandro Lopez on the right and the Argentinian shot just inches wide.
Bordeaux had the first decent effort of the second half when Wendel's powerful left-footed shot forced Hugo Lloris to turn the ball behind for a corner.
The breakthrough arrived when Jaroslav Plasil fired a free-kick into the Lyon penalty area and Diarra jostled himself into position to head past Lloris.
Bordeaux had another chance in the 76th minute when Yohan Gouffran's shot was punched away by Lloris.
Lyon went close to equalising in the 89th minute when Bafetimbi Gomis beat two defenders but saw his shot tipped against the crossbar by Cedric Carrasso.
Bordeaux added the finishing touch to their win when Jussie drove forward in the first minute of stoppage time and raced past three defenders before curling in a superb right-footed strike.
