Adriano own goal spares champions |
 |
Marseille's poor start to the season was only spared another defeat by Adriano's late own goal as they had to settle for a home draw with Monaco.
OM twice had to come from behind in a match in which they had the majority of the chances, but ultimately failed to win to leave them with just one victory in five games.
The impressive Mathieu Valbuena equalised Daniel Niculae's 15th-minute opener just before the break but Monaco were ahead again when Park Chu-young netted with 11 minutes to go.
Their lead lasted just a minute, however, as the unlucky Adriano turned the ball into his own net.
Monaco took a surprise lead after 15 minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's shot was deflected into the path of Niculae, who took his chance well with a shot back across the goalkeeper.
Marseille poured on the pressure thereafter, with Valbuena first forcing Stephane Ruffier into a low save before the striker's slight deflection from a Benoit Cheyrou free-kick skimmed a post before going out.
Valbuena was causing the Monaco defence plenty of problems and he forged a path down the flank before delivering a cross which Lucho Gonzalez flicked on into a dangerous area. Cheyrou made ground to reach the ball but headed over.
Valbuena deservedly scored his team's equaliser after 43 minutes when Lucho's free-kick was turned into his path and he blazed his shot into the top-left corner.
OM were denied the lead by Ruffier early in the second half when the shot-stopper made a fine reflex save to keep out Cheyrou, before Aubameyang found the side-netting at the other end following a quick counter-attack.
Monaco did get the goal to stun their hosts on another break when Aubameyang's long ball found Park and his quick feet took him past Stephane Mbia before he drove his shot home.
Facing the prospect of a third loss in five games OM were level almost immediately as Valbuena broke down the wing and arced in a cross that Adriano contrived to deflect into his own goal.
