Bordeaux crash to third defeat |
|
Bordeaux's struggles in Ligue 1 continued as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Nice.
Les Girondins could only finish sixth last season and, after losing coach Laurent Blanc to the France national team, they had taken only four points from as many games this time around.
And they failed to improve on that return as Eric Mouloungui and Habib Bamogo earned unbeaten Nice a maximum haul at the Municipal du Ray, despite Anthony Modeste's stoppage-time penalty.
Jaroslav Plasil's low long-range drive flashed narrowly wide as the hosts made a positive start, but Nice quickly seized the initiative and Nemanja Pejinovic headed Anthony Mounier's free-kick wide.
Mounier was again the provider as Julien Sable tested keeper Cedric Carrasso with a fine volley at the far post, but the France squad member made a superb save.
He could do nothing, though, when another set-piece delivery from that man Mounier picked out Mouloungui, who took on Mathieu Chalme and crashed the ball into the top corner for a fine opener.
Plasil missed a gilt-edged chance to level just three minutes after half-time, skewing the ball wide when picked out in front of goal by Yoan Gouffran.
That did at least set the tone for a second half of Bordeaux pressure, with Nice happy to defend their advantage.
Jussie was denied a penalty after going down under Renato Civelli's challenge and Plasil's cross was headed straight at keeper David Ospina by Michael Ciani.
Ospina made a good diving save from Jussie and got his reward when Bamogo made the game safe in the last minute, side-footing home after being picked out by Didier Digard's through-ball following a flowing break.
The hosts were grateful for that goal as Renato Civelli's handball allowed Anthony Modeste to convert a stoppage-time penalty, but they hung on for victory.
