Toulouse eased to their fourth straight win at the start of the Ligue 1 season after second-half goals from Etienne Capoue and Franck Tabanou.
Nancy had the better of the first half and hit the crossbar shortly before half-time through Jordan Loties' header.
But they were made to regret that near miss as Toulouse continued their imperious form and opened up an early four-point lead at the summit.
Visiting keeper Mathieu Valverde was given an early test by Djamel Bakar's effort after the forward was set up by Julien Feret.
Feret then saw a volley blocked by Cheikh M'Bengue before Toulouse belatedly came into the game shortly after the half hour mark.
Capoue's free-kick sparked a spell of head tennis which ended with Etienne Didot's effort being held unconvincingly by Gennaro Bracigliano, who then punched away Tabanou's drive.
Nancy pressed again and Bakar's instinctive backheel from the impressive Feret's cross drew even sharper reflexes from Valverde before Loties headed Feret's volley onto the crossbar.
Toulouse stepped up a gear after the interval and Mauro Cetto's header was saved before Capoue exchanged passes with Tabanou before sidefooting home a 67th-minute opener.
Bracigliano repelled a Didot free-kick before Nancy twice went close to a late equaliser.
Bakaye Traore's shot took a dangerous bounce in front of Valverde, but the keeper managed to save - before making an even better save as Bakar's shot headed for the top corner.
And Valverde got his reward as Tabanou scored a superb solo goal deep in stoppage time, beating three men before lobbing Bracigliano.
