Lorient claim Lyon scalp |
 |
Christian Gourcuff spoiled his son Yoann's Lyon debut as his Lorient side scored a notable Ligue 1 victory at the Stade du Moustoir.
Gourcuff junior, who moved to the Stade Gerland from Bordeaux this week, came on after 30 minutes as a substitute for the injured Cesar Delgado, but by that time his side were already 1-0 down, courtesy of Kevin Gameiro's penalty.
And it got worse for Lyon, who were left with just one win for their opening four games, as Lynel Kitambala grabbed a second after 65 minutes.
It was a lively opening as for Lyon Jeremie Toulalan headed Kim Kallstrom's corner inches over the bar and, at the other end, Morgan Amalfitano's neat effort with the outside of the boot grazed the post on its way out.
After seven minutes Lorient were in front. Toulalan handballed, and Gameiro sent the resulting spot-kick straight down the middle.
Five minutes later Amalfitano attempted to lob Hugo Lloris from the edge of the box but his effort went over the bar.
Gourcuff's entrance did not quite provide the spark Lyon boss Claude Puel would have been hoping for, though Kallstrom's deflected effort drew a decent save from Lionel Cappone three minutes before the break.
Moments before the break, Lloris saved from Gameiro.
Five minutes after the restart, Jean Makoun's shot was fisted clear by Cappone, before Gourcuff's corner was almost headed into his own net by Bruno Ecuele.
Lorient killed off the game shortly after when Lloris could only deflect Amalfitano's shot to Kitambala, who gratefully snaffled the rebound.
Lyon's best chance to pull one back came after 69 minutes, when Cappone kept Miralem Pjanic's 20-yard effort out.
