New PSG deal for Makelele |
Former France international Claude Makelele has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain.
Makelele's future had been in doubt with his current deal set to expire this summer amid reports of a bust-up with club officials.
However, following a meeting with PSG president Robin Leproux, the veteran holding midfielder postponed plans to hang-up his boots and has comitted to another season with capital club.
"I'm relieved, because I believe in this club," Makelele told Canal Plus. "There will be some important recruitment and the target is interesting - to make this an important club again in France.
"I share the ambitions of the coach and the club."
A Champions League and two-time Primera Division winner with Real Madrid, Makelele joined PSG in 2008 after a successful five-year stint at Chelsea during which he picked up two Premier League titles.
He played 31 games for PSG last term and helped the club to Coupe de France glory.
