Bordeaux eased out of Euro trips
Deposed champions Bordeaux missed out on European qualification on the final day of the Ligue 1 season.

Les Girondins' defeat at Lens proved irrelevant as Montpellier held on to fifth place with a 3-1 win at Paris St Germain.

But Bordeaux's hopes of finishing the season with a win in what was likely to be coach Laurent Blanc's final game in charge were dashed as they went down in a seven-goal thriller at Lens.

The visitors had to play for 84 minutes with 10 men following the early dismissal of defender Michael Ciani and Bordeaux were unable to pull off a famous win.

Ciani's red card came following a reckless lunge at Issam Jemaa.

Having a man advantage did not pay immediate dividends for Lens, who were lucky to survive an 18th-minute scare which saw Wendel fire on to the post.

The hosts took the lead a minute later when Toifilou Maoulida nodded in Kanga Akale's centre.

It was 2-0 after 35 minutes, Samba Sow firing in after being picked out by Maoulida.

Bordeaux found a route back into the contest six minutes before the break when Henri Bedimo was adjudged to have fouled Marouane Chamakh inside the area.

Wendel made no mistake from the spot and Bordeaux were level four minutes after the break, Bedimo deflecting Wendel's free-kick into his own net.

Lens moved back in front after 55 minutes via the spot when Benoit Tremoulinas brought down Maoulida and Jemaa converted.

The hosts made it 4-2 when Maoulida sprinted clear to slot under Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso.

Another spot-kick by Wendel - awarded when Sow felled the Brazilian - reduced the arrears but the visitors could not find an equaliser.
