Stoppage-time strike not enough for PSG |
|
Mateja Kezman's stoppage-time strike was not enough for Paris St Germain to celebrate their Coupe de France success with victory, as Valenciennes' Fahid Ben Khalfallah netted a last-gasp leveller in a sensational finish to the Ligue 1 encounter at Parc des Princes.
Mevlut Erding fired PSG in front after 29 minutes, but Gaetan Bong levelled after 59 minutes.
Kezman struck what appeared to be the winner in stoppage time but Ben Khalfallah had the final say after 93 minutes.
Paris St Germain were aiming to avoid a hangover from their Coupe de France success, achieved when Guillaume Hoarau netted a 105th-minute winner against Monaco at the Stade de France.
Despite PSG languishing in mid-table in Ligue 1, coach Antoine Kombouare declared the season a success after lifting the cup.
And they were looking to celebrate the trophy win with victory over their mid-table rivals this evening.
PSG had an early opportunity when Jeremy Clement released Ludovic Giuly, whose shot took a wicked deflection off Remi Gomis only for Nicolas Penneteau to scramble the ball clear.
Penneteau saved from Christophe Jallet's attempted lob before he was beaten by Erding after 29 minutes.
Claude Makelele released Erding and the Turkey striker tucked in beyond Penneteau with a left-footed shot.
Hoarau volleyed over from Erding's cross before VA's first chance of the half fell to Milan Bisevac, but his effort was blocked.
Edel Bete saved from Gael Danic before VA equalised when David Ducourtioux's cross was converted by Bong.
Bete saved Gomis' header before Kezman was denied by a Penneteau save.
Kezman did beat the Valenciennes goalkeeper in stoppage time, heading in Jallet's cross for what PSG thought was the winner.
But VA equalised in the third minute of stoppage time when Gregory Pujol's cross from the left was converted Ben Khalfallah at the far post.
