Bordeaux draw at Nice |
|
Bordeaux's woeful conclusion to their Ligue 1 season continued tonight as their draw at Nice all but ended Les Girondins' bid for the Champions League.
Emerse Fa opened the scoring in the 26th minute for the hosts and although Bordeaux piled on the pressure following Wendel's equaliser seven minutes later, Laurent Blanc's side could not find the winner.
The build-up to the game had been dominated by French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes' confirmation Blanc has been offered - but has not yet accepted - the job of national team coach.
The visitors, though, had the better of the game and came close to taking the lead when Marouane Chamakh's goalbound header was punched away by David Opsina.
Chamakh then turned supplier, crossing to Jaroslav Plasil whose powerful shot was repelled by Ospina.
However, it was Nice who went ahead when Fa sent a right-footed shot past Ulrich Ram.
The lead lasted just seven minutes when Les Girondins levelled through Wendel who fired in a 20-yard free kick.
Loic Remy hit the side netting shortly after half time for Nice but from then on in it was all Bordeaux.
Chamakh, who is heading for Premier League Arsenal, took on two defenders before unleashing a shot which was cleared by Gregory Paisley.
Gregory Sertic was the next to chance his arm with a powerful shot which defender Julien Sable deflected away.
Then just three minutes from time Wendel almost stole victory when his curling free-kick from outside the area missed the goal by inches.
