Bordeaux remained in contention for a Champions League spot thanks to a hard-fought home win over Toulouse this evening.
Michael Ciani's 17th-minute goal was the difference between the sides at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.
The result kept Les Girondins four points behind third-placed Lille with three games of the Ligue 1 season to play.
TFC striker Andre-Pierre Gignac had the first chance of the game, shooting narrowly wide with his left foot after six minutes.
Gignac tried his luck again 60 seconds later, this time with a curling right-footed effort, but the outcome was the same.
The deadlock was broken 10 minutes later at the other end, Ciani heading home from Wendel's corner.
Ludovic Sane thought he had put Laurent Blanc's side two goals to the good 11 minutes before the break, but his header from Wendel's free-kick was ruled out for offside.
Wendel was again the provider as the chances continued to flow after the interval.
The Brazilian's free-kick found Henrique, who controlled on his chest before executing an ambitious overhead kick which flew just over the bar.
The hosts looked for a way back into the game and almost found it when Etienne Didot released Franck Tabanou, but the substitute volleyed wide just after the hour mark.
Tabanou then forced the save of the night from Ulrich Rame, the Bordeaux stopper keeping out Tabanou's left-footed blast from the edge of the area to preserve his side's slender lead in the 71st minute.
The home team almost grabbed a second goal four minutes from time when Jaroslav Plasil latched onto Marouane Chamakh's ball and was afforded two shots at goal.
But the first was saved by Yohann Pele and the second struck the post.
