Lille tighten grip on third |
|
Lille strengthened their grip on a place in the Champions League qualifiers with a 3-1 win over Nancy with the goals coming from Yohan Cabaye, Gervinho and Pierre-Alain Frau.
Cabaye opened the scoring after 32 minutes and Gervinho doubled their lead three minutes later.
Frau made it 3-0 three minutes into the second half before Chris Malonga netted a consolation goal for Nancy.
The home side went close to taking the lead after three minutes when Frau set up Eden Hazard but he shot narrowly wide.
The visitors hit back when Alfred N'Diaye's header beat Mickael Landreau but defender Adil Rami cleared off the line.
Nancy goalkeeper Gennaro Bracigliano then made a fine double save, first keeping out Gervinho's shot following Hazard's pass before the rebound fell to Hazard. His pass to Frau set up another chance but again Bracigliano kept out the effort.
Florent Balmont freed Mathieu Debuchy, whose cross to Frau saw the striker backheel the ball goalwards, but again Bracigliano blocked the chance.
Lille took the lead when Cabaye fired a free-kick into the top corner of the goal.
And Gervinho doubled the lead three minutes later when he lobbed over Bracigliano.
Hazard set up Nancy's third goal when he crossed low to Frau, who took his chance to shoot home.
Malonga pulled a goal back when he headed in from close range and Nancy could have had a second only for Andre Luiz to shoot just past the post from the edge of the area.
Lille nearly restored their three-goal lead after 63 minutes when Gervinho got free on the right and hit a shot from the corner of the area which Bracigliano blocked.
Lille were comfortable winners to enhance their European hopes against a Nancy side who are set to finish in mid-table.
