Lorient pile misery on Bordeaux |
|
A solitary goal from Kevin Gameiro was enough to extend Bordeaux's miserable run of form as Lorient goalkeeper Lionel Cappone produced an inspired performance in tonight's Ligue 1 match at the Stade du Moustoir.
While Les Girondins dominated the first half, they could not get past Cappone in the home goal and were made to pay when Gameiro struck 12 minutes after half-time for his 15th goal of the season.
Morgan Amalfitano put a snapshot over the bar in the first minute for the hosts but from there on in the first 45 minutes belonged to the defending champions.
However, Cappone was in inspired form denying Wendel and Yoann Gourcuff in quick succession in the first six minutes.
The 31-year-old then somehow repelled Alou Diarra who sent a header towards goal from Gourcuff's free-kick.
Gourcuff - son of Lorient coach Christian - shot inches over before Cappone blocked the midfielder's close-range effort by deflecting it onto the bar while Yohan Gouffran put an overhead kick inches over as Bordeaux were frustrated.
Laurent Blanc's side will have rued their inability to score when Gameiro struck after outpacing Ludovic San and slotting the ball home under Ulrich Rame.
Cappone repelled Wendel's free-kick but Lorient almost doubled their lead when Yann Jouffre's powerful shot came back off the bar .
Cappone then deflected Marouane Chamakh's close-range shot as the visitors continued to searched in vain for an equaliser.
Gameiro could have bagged a second but only hit the side-netting when unmarked with just Rame to beat.
The result means Bordeaux have accumulated just 14 points from their last 14 games, while Lorient moved up to seventh and within four points of their visitors.
