Lille trashed Monaco 4 - 0 |
 |
Lille scored four goals against Monaco for the second time this season to leapfrog Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 standings.
Aurelien Chedjou headed Lille into an early lead before Yohan Cabaye doubled their advantage from the spot on the stroke of half-time.
Cabaye grabbed a well-worked second in the 75th minute and Tulio De Melo capped a great night for the hosts in stoppage time.
Lille now occupy the final Europa League qualifying spot and are only a point behind Lyon who currently hold a Champions League berth.
The hosts were in control from the start and could have taken the lead in the 13th minute when Cabaye sent a 30-yard free-kick goalwards only to be denied by a sublime save from Stephane Ruffier.
However, they only had to wait seconds more before Chedjou rose above Nicolas Nkoulou to head home Cabaye's corner.
Monaco could have levelled in the 25th minute as Nene smashed a powerful effort from 35 yards out which flew just past the left post.
Lille's grip on the game grew stronger on the stroke of half time when Igor Lolo fouled Debuchy in the area and Cabaye dispatched a perfect penalty into the bottom right corner.
Monaco almost got back into the match in the 66th minute but Lille goalkeeper Mikael Landreau pulled off a brilliant fingertip save to keep out Nene's long-range free-kick.
The hosts extended their advantage 10 minutes later after some good build-up play by Eden Hazard. Gervinho then played a sublime ball towards Cabaye who fired into the bottom corner.
In stoppage time De Melo headed home Ludovic Obraniak's corner to ensure that Lille triumphed by the same scoreline as they had done at Monaco in December.
