Red mist descends as Bordeaux held |
 |
Bordeaux's frustrating month continued as they were twice pegged back by their Champions League conquerors Lyon at the Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas.
Marouane Chamakh and Jaroslav Plasil had both fired the hosts ahead only for goals from Lyon's Brazilian duo Ederson and Cris to leave them deflated.
Emotions then boiled over in the closing stages when three players were sent off following a mass brawl.
Lyon defender Anthony Reveillere was sent packing for a bad foul on Benoit Tremoulinas, who himself saw red along with team-mate Jussie as players from both side reacted angrily in a sour end to the match.
The result continues a horror April for Bordeaux who, while at least ending a three-game losing streak, are out of contention to defend their title with an 11-point gap behind leaders Marseille.
Laurent Blanc's side were also knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League by Lyon just last week, but any hopes of revenge were frittered away on another frustrating night.
The hosts had led through Chamakh after 25 minutes, albeit after surviving a hairy moment when Bafetimbi Gomis shot against the post at the other end.
Yoann Gourcuff made space down the left flank and Chamakh attacked his cross before planting a firm header into the back of the net.
The hosts deservedly took a lead into the break, but they conceded the advantage ten minutes after the restart when Ederson's arrowed 25-yard shot was too good for Ulrich Rame.
It was tough on Bordeaux but to their credit they were back in front seven minutes later.
Plasil took advantage of some slack marking as he found space to shoot from the edge of the area and bend his shot in from the right.
But for the second time Lyon drew level when Cris thrashed in a 70th-minute free-kick.
Alou Diarra then missed a close-range header to win it before the game descended into farce.
With tensions already at breaking point Reveiller's poor challenge on Tremoulinas prompted a red card and an a mass brawl.
Tremoulinas was infuriated at the tackle but took his protests too far while Jussie also saw red as he reacted angrily.
