Bayern Munich beat FC Zurich 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern, who reached the final of the competition in 2010, went ahead through Bastian Schweinsteiger's eighth-minute strike. Arjen Robben doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute to put Jupp Heynckes' side in the driving seat ahead of the season leg.

The visitors had Mathieu Beda sent off in the 90th minute.

Odense claimed a 1-0 win at home to Villarreal thanks to Henrik Andreasen's 84th-minute effort.

Dinamo Zagreb scored three second-half goals to beat Malmo 4-1. Malmo, who knocked out Rangers in the last round, were well-placed at half-time with the score a 1-1, Agon Mehmeti cancelling out Jorge Sammir's early goal for the Croatians. But the hosts seized the initiative after the break.

Ante Rukavina restored their lead in the 54th minute, Sammir got his second from the penalty spot and Milan Badelj made it four six minutes from time.

Genk scored an important away goal in a 2-1 defeat to Maccabi Haifa. The Israelis were in the ascendancy when goals from Weam Amasha and Vladimir Dvalishvili put them 2-0 up before the half-hour mark, but Israel international Elyaniv Barda brought Genk right back into the tie by pulling one back in the 61st minute.

Wisla Krakow won 1-0 at home to Apoel Nicosia, Patryk Malecki on target 19 minutes from time.
